Double Bill: Amstatten / Ordinary Courage
Presented by Greenwich Dance + Trinity Laban Partnership
AMSTATTEN is an allegory on fear and confinement. A short story that contrasts performer Janina Rajakangas’s inner psychological landscape with the imposition of a reduced and restricted physical space.
Choreographed by Robert Clark and accompanied by a stark and geometric lighting design by acclaimed lighting designer Guy Hoare, AMSTATTEN draws on stories of kidnapping and hostage situations taken from news reports over the past 30 years and presents the audience with a beautiful and disturbing representation of the resulting common elements.
Supported by Arts Council England, Greenwich Dance, Escalator, The Place, Dance Digital and Trestle.
ORDINARY COURAGE is the inaugural work by acclaimed dancer and designer Theo Clinkard. Following 17 years of performing with some of the most celebrated British choreographers, Clinkard directs an international cast who have between them worked with Random Dance, Akram Khan, Richard Alston, Siobhan Davies, Matthew Bourne, Sydney Dance Company and Australian Dance Theatre.
With lighting by Zerlina Hughes and an original score by Alan Stones, that incorporates Scarlatti and Bach performed live on piano, ORDINARY COURAGE uses visceral, eloquent and life affirming dance to examine the nature of loss and re-imagine the process of repair as an adventure.
Created with funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and supported by South East Dance as a Made in Kent commission, Greenwich Dance, Trinity Laban, The Point, Pavilion Dance South West, Bath ICIA, Dance Base Edinburgh and Chichester University.
