	Greenwich Dance and English National Ballet are delighted to invite primary and secondary schools from across London to apply to perform in the Big Dance Big Top Tent set in the surrounds of the Old Naval College, Greenwich during Big Dance Week 2012.</p>
<p>
	The Schools Showcase will offer schools the opportunity to present their work in The Big Dance Big Top Tent during the afternoon of <strong>Friday 6 July 2012 </strong>alongside professional performances from companies including English National Ballet.</p>

	The Big Dance Walk is an outdoor promenade performance which will take place in Oxleas Meadows on Sunday 15 July.&nbsp;</p>
<p>
	Greenwich Dance is looking for people of all ages and levels of experience to take part in this intergenerational site-specific dance, celebrating this beautiful green space in the heart of the city.</p>
<p>
	Working with artists Thomas Goodwin and Petra Soor, three groups will come together to create the piece - a local primary school group, an intergenerational group (for all ages) and an intensive workshop group (for more experienced dancers).</p>

	As part of the UK-wide festival, Big Dance 2012, we&rsquo;re bringing 8 weeks of dance to unexpected places across South East London, celebrating the diversity of dance in the capital.</p>
<p>
	Greenwich Dance, The Big Dance Hub for South East London, is working with dance artists, arts organisations, schools and councils across the boroughs of Bromley, Bexley, Lewisham and Greenwich to present a truly memorable summer of dance - but we need your help!</p>
<p>
	We are urgently looking for hard-working, reliable and motivated volunteers with a passion for dance to assist with the smooth running of two events taking place on Friday 18 May (daytime) at The Painted Hall, Royal Naval College, Greenwich and also at the BBC live site, General Gordon Square, Woolwich.</p>
<p>
	Both of these events will be part of the Big Dance Schools Pledge Guinness World Record Attempt to have the most dance events taking place at the same time across the UK.</p>

		  <title>Greenwich Dance leads Big Dance 2012 celebrations in South East London</title>

	Greenwich Dance, as the Big Dance Hub for South East London, is presenting the largest ever celebration of dance across the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham between 18 May and 15 July 2012. Visiting over 30 different venues &ndash; parks, museums, libraries, schools, theatre spaces and streets - there will be more than 50 workshops, performances, picnics, cabarets and masterclasses, aiming to attract more than 12,000 audiences and participants.</p>
<p>
	Part of the London 2012 Festival, the focus is on open air events and iconic places. Greenwich Dance has commissioned Luca Silvestrini&rsquo;s Protein, its award-winning resident company, to create <em>The Picnic,</em> an open air performance for Big Dance Picnics at <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_picnic_trinity_laban/">Trinity Laban</a> in Deptford, the <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/greenwich_world_cultural_festival_2012/">Greenwich World Cultural Festival</a> at Eltham Palace, the <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_picnic_horniman_museum/">Horniman Museum</a> in Forest Hill and the <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_carnival/">Big Dance Carnival</a> at Crystal Palace Park. The Big Dance Bus will make an appearance at shopping centres in<a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_bus_at_lewisham/"> Lewisham</a> and <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_bus_at_bexleyheath/">Bexley Broadway </a>and at the <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_bus_at_danson_festival/">Danson Festival</a>.</p>
<p>
	Big Dance is London&rsquo;s Legacy Trust UK programme, delivered by the Mayor of London and Arts Council England, creating a lasting impact from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK</p>
<p>
	The events in Greenwich are part of The Greenwich Festivals series, funded by Greenwich Council, celebrating the cultural vibrancy of London&rsquo;s newest Royal borough.</p>
<p>
	At the <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_walk/">Big Dance Walk</a> in Oxleas Meadows, Greenwich Dance and artists, Thomas Goodwin and Petra Soor, will be inviting an intergenerational group of local people to join the project as performers.</p>
<p>
	A new dance theatre work by choreographer Kate Flatt and composer Adrinao Adewale,<a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/ballroom_joys_sorrows/">&nbsp;Ballroom of Joys and Sorrows</a><em>, </em>drawing on English and global folk traditions will be performed at Greenwich Dance, The Borough Hall on June 1 and 2, with local performers aged 7-70 participating in the live music, dance and song.</p>
<p>
	Festivities kick off in South East London with <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/the_big_family_cabaret_2012/">The Big Family Cabaret</a> at Greenwich Dance on Saturday 19 May. On 18 May, the day the Olympic Torch arrives in the UK, local schools will be taking part in the <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/big_dance_schools_pledge/">Big Dance Schools Pledge</a> in the iconic Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College and the BBC Live Site in Woolwich town centre.&nbsp; This is part of a world record attempt to have the most dance events taking place at the same time across the country.</p>
<p>
	Greenwich Dance, Trinity Laban and the National Maritime Museum will collaborate with schools to create dance and music inspired by collections in the Museum, culminating in a celebratory event, <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/making_waves/">Making Waves</a> on 28 June, highlighting the unique cultural opportunities and heritage within the Royal Borough of Greenwich as it prepares to host the Olympics.</p>
<p>
	From 5 &ndash; 9 July, Greenwich Dance, Greenwich Council and English National Ballet will be presenting events in <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/engage/bigdanceevent/the_big_dance_big_top_tent/">The Big Dance Big Top Tent</a> alongside the river at the Old Royal Naval College.&nbsp; Events will include a professional masterclass day, a schools&rsquo; showcase, free workshops for all, a social dance and two cabarets.</p>

	Round off the Easter holidays in style at the <a href="http://greenwichdance.org.uk/watch/event/family_cabaret/">Greenwich Dance Family Cabaret</a> on Saturday 14 April.</p>
<p>
	Bring the whole family along to The Borough Hall for an afternoon of comedy, live music and a host of London&rsquo;s finest dance talent.</p>
<p>
	Newly formed&nbsp;Delve Dance Company&nbsp;presents Lucy Ridley&#39;s&nbsp;<em>The Lyre Bug,</em>&nbsp;a playful, slick contemporary dance quartet where insects regard humans as pests and attempt to control them.</p>
<p>
	Simeon Weedall&nbsp;and&nbsp;Avalon Rathgeb&nbsp;will be performing their percussive&nbsp;tap dance&nbsp;duet. There will be an energetic blast of street dance and an enchanting ballet duet. The spellbinding Matt Hennem&nbsp;presents&nbsp;<em>Liquid Crystal</em>, breathing life into an inanimate crystal ball.</p>
<p>
	Keep an eye out for quirky roving act, Average Height Ladies, who will be making their debut performance in and around the building.</p>
<p>
	Comedy performance poet Neal Zetter&nbsp;will be hosting the event, with live music from&nbsp;Frank Moon&#39;s Hotclub Quartet. Table service is provided throughout the event and audience members are invited to bring their own food.</p>
<p>
	Everyone will have the chance to join in the fun and show off their own moves during the Family Disco.</p>
<p>
	The event starts at 3:15PM.&nbsp;</p>

	Children engage in playful activities that support future functioning, learning &amp; skills in dance.</p>
<p>
	Dance Ability is open to any child with physical and / or learning disability or sensory impairment. Wheelchair users are welcome.</p>
<p>
	Whilst some support is available in each session we encourage parents, carers or siblings to take a practical role in the class to enjoy the experience for themselves and with their child.</p>
