This summer Greenwich Dance will be bringing colour and movement to unusual places and spaces in a week-long celebration of everything that is Eltham!

Dance will be springing up everywhere from the local library, school playgrounds, community centres, parks and along the high street. There will be performances to watch, shows to help create and dance styles to try out – all completely free!

Come and help dance maker Sophie Nüzel as she embarks on the very beginning of her creative journey making a brand-new family show to be presented in Eltham in 2020. Learn bhangra, bollywood, ballroom and beatboxing as part of our Passey Place Pop Ups. Turn up the funk at our NRgDance DJ Jam. Run into our roaming cabaret performers, Levantes Dance Theatre as they sprinkle some sugar-coated kitsch along the high street and join us to celebrate the work of a range of local performance groups alongside world class professionals at the Greenwich Dance Jamboree. Finally, celebrate the culmination of the week with us in a foot-clomping climax at our Summer Party In Queenscroft Park, hosted by Folk Dance Remixed, who will be presenting their glorious outdoor show around a maypole Step Hop House and finishing up with a ceilidh jam!

Speaking about the festival, Chief Executive Officer, Melanie Precious said:

“We are so excited to be in residence in Eltham in June, animating public spaces with world class dance artists and community performance groups. This year’s festival takes on a new shape –a weeks-worth of dance presented in the places and spaces where people ordinarily go. Residents and visitors to Eltham won’t need to go to much effort to find us…we are bringing our dance to find you!

Levantes Dance Theatre and Folk Dance Remixed will be in residence with us – two incredible companies who are doing such inclusive and creative work. Levantes Dance Theatre, with their colourful and kitsch approach to movement making will be sprinkling sugar-coated magic to all those who come into contact with them – keep your eyes peeled as you go about your weekly shop along the high street! And Folk Dance Remixed will be bringing a thrilling show to Queenscroft Park combining Maypole, Clogging, Ceilidh, Street, House and Breakdance with a hint of African & Bollywood… to a live soundtrack of fiddle & beat boxing. You can’t get more fun than that!

This way of working reflects our new vision as an organisation: doing more and more work outdoors and in unusual spaces in partnership with inspirational dance companies, local organisations and community-focussed services such as Community Centres, schools and libraries who believe, as we do, that everyone has the right to create, watch and take part in fantastic dance”.
