Coming from our living room to yours, Greenwich Dance have redesigned Up My Street SHOWTIME! to create an online version of the experience designed specifically for residents, families and communities of Greenwich!
The experience will take the form of four specially created ‘tv episodes’ of dance performance, interviews and invitations to move ….which will each be screened, one a week, starting the week commencing 22 June!
We have commissioned four incredible, world-class choreographers to each make a brand new dance piece for camera made entirely within lockdown restrictions. Each piece will be screened within its own ‘episode’ on our website – edited by award-winning filmaker Roswitha Chesher and hosted by comedienne, performer and choreographer Sarah Blanc. There will be interviews with the choreographers, excerpts from their eclectic back catalogue of work and an invitation to get up and dance along with larger-than-life ‘spoof’ character GLORIA who you may remember visited the communities of Greenwich in our glitter-dusted film of last year…
Get Creative with Our Choreographers!
Our choreographers have each been given the brief to include YOU within their new dance-for-camera pieces.
Greenwich Dance will pair you up with one of our four choreographers who will involve you (remotely) in some way in the making of their piece. They might ask you to film yourself creating a movement, they might want a word or a sound to make a soundscape, they might have a question for you…the possibilities are endless.
If you fancy being involved, send us an email by Friday 24th April and we will then get back to you with a creative task from one of our four artists.
Up My Street LIVE: Meet the Artists!
‘Up My Street’ was always intended to give you an opportunity to gather friends and loved ones together around food and dance in a familiar setting ….and we are determined to bring you that very same experience (albeit in a virtual format!) Towards the end of our month of screenings, Greenwich Dance will be scheduling a live zoom chat with the artists so you can ask questions of our collaborators and hang out virtually with us and other audience members – a glass or cup of something in hand!

Zoie Golding of ZoieLogic Dance Theatre
Zoie and her company ‘get guys dancing’ and challenge perceptions of dance, who it is for and where and how it is shown. They entertain audiences with bold, risky and surprising shows taking their influences from the wonderful world of cinema. They believe in making expereinces with you rather than for you and want to give as many people as possible the chance to be makers!

Mathieu Geffré of Rendez-Vous Dance
Mathieu creates inclusive projects for everyone to feel involved and welcome and uses dance choreography and performance as a vehicle to express values of inclusivity, diversity and harmony. Their ambition is to offer authentic artistic experiences that are thought to fight social isolation.
Temujin Gill of Grounded Movement
Grounded Movement grew out of a 25 year association between Artistic Director Temujin Gill and Associate Director Sunanda Biswas, both passionate advocates for passing on the knowledge, skills, benefits and cultural relevance of Jazz and Hip Hop dances. In 2013, a year after their roller-coaster experience directing the choreography for the NHS segment of the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, they joined forces to form Grounded Movement.
Sarah is an Irish performer and choreographer living in London. She creates solo work on herself and is also Artistic Director of Moxie Brawl – a fresh all-female inclusive dance theatre company. She is also one third of AnnieVickySarah. Her choreographic work has toured extensively and been seen on artists and companies such as Complicite, Bryony Kimmings and Little Red Kettle. Sarah’s latest show, My Feminist Boner, is a fierce and funny one-woman dance comedy show about breaking down the rules of beauty. As a presenter, Sarah co-founded Inside Dance TV and was the main presenter for Art Streaming TV from 2013-2017. She hosts regularly for Southbank Centre for festivals such as Imagine and Unlimited. Sarah created the character of GLORIA! in a Greenwich Dance film commission made by Roswitha Chesher in 2019.
Ros originally trained as a dancer and choreographer at Trinity Laban and now brings that knowledge to her work as filmmaker and photographer.
She documents artist’s work both on stage, in the community and in the studio: photographing, making promos and trailers and creating full length edits of performance and projects. She creates dance for camera films, (e.g. To the Ends of the Fingertips, commissioned by Big Dance in 2016), video installations, (e.g. Liquid Gold is the Air, a 3 screen triptych, created in collaboration with choreographer Rosemary Lee) and video installations for live work (e.g. Gravity, a projection on Queens House, Greenwich, commissioned by Greenwich and Docklands Festival). Ros regularly collaborates with dancers, choreographers and companies including Rosemary Lee, Protein Dance and Candoco Dance Company as well as working with organisations including Trinity Laban, English National Ballet, Entelechy Arts and Evelina Hospital School at St. Thomas’s.
Last year Ros created our kitsch tongue-in-cheek film GLORIA! and has been behind the camera documenting Greenwich Dance’s work for the past 20 years (including shooting the range of beautiful images we have been using to promote Up My Street.)
