linked.dance - linking disabled children and young people to dance opportunities

Posted on:

linked.dance is a brand new website designed to connect more disabled children and young people to dance opportunities in south east London. It has been developed by Linked – a partnership of four organisations: Candoco Dance Company, Greenwich Dance, Magpie Dance and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

“Yes this is a site I'm going to return to. You are trying to bridge that gaping hole and that's all we want, people willing to build bridges so our young people can walk, in this case dance, further into accessing their aspirations.” Parent/carer

The website provides information on classes, events and workshops offered by the four Linked organisations, alongside visual guides to venues and video interviews with parents and carers and dance artists about inclusive dance. The aim is to help break down barriers to joining a class for the first time, to share information about the range of dance activities on offer, and to make attending a dance class more accessible for children and young people with a disability.

Alongside information for parents and carers and disabled children and young people, the website has a small resource area for inclusive dance artists to learn from and share the expertise of the four Linked dance organisations.

The website also features ‘Back to Blackheath’, a new inclusive dance film inspired by the history, stories, atmosphere and architecture of London’s oldest purpose-built cultural venue, Blackheath Halls. The film was created in 2016 with disabled and non-disabled dancers from Cando2, Magpie Dance Youth Group, Thomas Tallis School and Trinity Laban’s Dance Ability and was directed by David McCormick.

The work of LINKED is supported by Arts Council England through The Greenwich Dance & Trinity Laban Partnership.
