Adult Contemporary (General Level)

Wednesdays 18:30-20:00

A gentle, grounding class exploring the freedom of movement that contemporary dance offers!

The class starts with a warm up followed by exercises to develop strength, co-ordination and flexibility. The class progresses on to travelling movements and creative tasks which are used to make movement material unique to you and your body.

Previous experience of dance is not necessary although if you come with prior knowledge we can most definitely build on your existing knowledge and muscle memory!

Class tutor

Alison Swann

Alison Swann trained at Laban and is a Dance in Education Specialist with over 30 years experience. She took her Cert.Ed at Goldsmiths College London University and has worked in schools and with education authorities across London and the UK. Her professional work has included: dancing for the London Film School, working with choreographer Caroline Lange and artist Kate Denton. Alison has extensive teaching experience and has led professional development for teachers across London and the South-East. This has included work on behalf of Laban and The Place, on the Learn Physical Interactive programme, and running sessions to support teachers of GCSE dance from Brighton schools. She worked with the University of Greenwich and Blackheath Conservatoire to develop and teach a performing arts module to teacher training students. Alison was part of the team working with schools in Camden to create a live performance for the Arrivals Festival at St Pancras International. She is currently involved in an extensive research project with Surrey Arts and 10 primary schools looking at how dance and movement can impact on maths mastery. Alison is a director of Dance Educates Ltd., a consultancy focusing on dance in schools and using movement as a multi-sensory approach to learning.
