This is a unique, integrated course on Cuban-style salsa, where you can develop and grow your salsa dancing, building up your skills and fluency on the dance floor week by week.
Everyone is welcome and no partner is needed, as we will pair up and rotate partners in the class.
This class runs from 20.00-21.00 at a beginners level for all. Here, you will cover the essential foundational ingredients that make up Cuban style salsa (Casino). You will be introduced to foundational salsa footwork, timing and figures, as well as gaining insights into the special ingredients that make salsa unique, including posture; timing and rhythm; improvisation; Cuban motion; body isolations; lead and follow technique and more.
Over the course, we will touch on the some of the family of styles and rhythms that make up the salsa family, including rueda de casino (Cuban salsa circle dance), merengue, bolero and Cuban style cha cha cha.
More experienced students can stay for the intermediate level at 21.00-21.30, using the beginners session as a warm-up. Here, we go deeper, exploring more advanced salsa technicalities, footwork and figures, rhythms and styles.
The course is based on the UKA Salsa & Rueda Syllabus (Bronze) and introducing elements from the Silver Salsa & Rueda syllabuses. This can lead to taking UKA Dance Salsa Medals for students who are interested, but this is all optional!
