This August we are offering YOU the opportunity to make your own dance film!
Inspired by the tasks set in our Up My Street ONLINE films, we are offering a package of support including mentoring from our four Up My Street choreographers and a professional editor to help you storyboard your idea. Using your mobile phone, you will create your own dance film which will be edited by our film makers and then broadcast here on our Digital Stage in the Autumn!
We are looking for filmakers with little to no professional dance training who might not ordinarily have the chance or access to resources to make a film of their own. (NB this is not suitable for professional dancers/makers)
To apply:
Step 1
Have a think about what your film might be about or trying to say.
You might want to watch of the four tasks below offered by our up My Street Choreographers and see if one of these inspires you as a starting point. Theres no obligation to use these if you already have a strong idea of your own…but they are really useful if you want some help to get your creative juices flowing!
Remember you can also have watch of the full films to see how the choreographers used other dancers to make their vision come to life.
Or you can have a look around our ‘What to Watch’ series on our Digital Stage where you will see multiple examples of dance-for-camera films to take your inspiration from.
Step 2
Complete the following application form telling us a bit about you and your idea. The form invites you to either write about your idea OR to send us a video of yourself telling us about it.
Application Form
**NB any professional submissions will not be considered for receipt of our package of support – although of course do go ahead and make your film should you want to … tag us ….and we will draw it onto our social media wall!
Deadline for applications is the 10th September.
NB:
Step 3
Our panel of judges, comprised of our editors, choreographers and members from our community will assess the applications in early September. We are looking for films which celebrate diversity and community in all its forms so we are actively encouraging submissions from filmakers of all demographics, ages, ethicities and abilities. Solos are welcome but if you are using a cast this is another opportunity to celebrate diversity both of culture and of people.
Everyone will be contacted by mid September with the outcome.
Step 4
If you haven’t been successful you will still be invited to make your film using a Top Tips sheet we will provide you with offering handy hints to help you plan your storyboard, gather your footage and edit your material. Once made, you can post your film onto social media using the tags @GreenwichDance and #upmystreet. Your film will then be pulled onto our website for all to see! We will also retweet/ share your posts making sure as many people as possible see your amazing work.
If you are one of our 4 successful applicants you will be offered some mentoring time with one of our choreographers, a group tutorial with our editors (delivered via zoom) and two days worth of professional editing time to bring your film to life.
Step 5
We will present your film on our Digital Stage in November and encourage you to spread the word!
