What to Watch

Posted on:

Here are five fantastic dance films to watch online this week. Remember, some are only available for a short time, so get watching!

Created in Quarantine

1. Kane John Mills - Lighten Up Mate
This thought-provoking piece was created by Mills as a response to his feelings around grief and loss, and how society expects men to shrug off painful emotions. It's a heart-rending watch with support phone lines given at the end for all those going through similar trauma.

One Night Only

2. Sarah Blanc - It Started With Jason Donovan
Sarah Blanc revives one of her early works - It Started With Jason Donovan, a show that charts her relationship history using Donovan's best loved songs, especially for you. Watch on Dance Reading's website on Wednesday 18 November from 8pm, and listen to our podcast with Sarah in the mean time.

3. DV8 - The Cost of Living

4. Kate Prince & Felix Harrison - The Holloway Laundrette
Time for a bit of escapism and a throwback to 2013 in this charming 6 minute film from Kate Prince and Felix Harrison. Clearly inspired by CS Lewis's The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe (she's reading it in the first scene), the main character finds a magical land when she crawls into washing machine in a laundrette on London's Holloway Road.

Under 5 Minutes

5. Eliot Smith Dance - CONNECT
CONNECT is a digital contemporary dance work, choreographed and performed by twelve community participants from Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, and the surrounding areas, and guided by ESD Artistic Director Eliot Smith in autumn 2020.
