Creative Approaches to Dance with Older People

Join Luca Silvestrini’s Protein and the cast of May Contain Food, May Contain You at Greenwich Dance Borough Hall to discover and explore creative approaches to working with older people. This two-day course will be delivered by our friends and highly esteemed colleagues Magdalena Schamberger and Diane Amans and will also draw on the experiences of Protein’s artistic director Luca Silvestrini.

Both days will culminate with time for discussion and reflection and the opportunity for delegates to share elements of their own practice. Coffee and tea, sandwiches and light refreshments provided.

May Contain Food May Contain You will be touring the UK in Spring 2018. Check www.proteindance.co.uk for details.

Tuesday 23 January: Mindful Arts

Magdalena Schamberger, creative collaborator, Honorary Professor, theatre director and teacher, will be offering an insight into aspects of ageing and dementia by exploring challenges within movement, word finding and memory. The session is aimed at increasing awareness, confidence and skills, thereby inviting meaningful engagement and connections with people living with dementia. This taster session is suitable for artists of all art forms and levels of experience and will be using a multi-arts approach.

Wednesday 24 January: Small Dances

Diane Amans, freelance dance artist, choreographer, consultant and author of An Introduction to Community Dance Practice and Age and Dancing: Older People and Community Dance will be sharing creative ideas for leading dance on a one to one basis with individuals or with very small groups of older people. The training will include mostly seated activities and will include ideas for engaging people who are in bed.
