Selection Workshop: MASS by Robert Clark
This workshop is now full. No further spaces are available on the day. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about the project.
Choreographer Robert Clark is looking for local participants to perform in his new work MASS, premiering at Greenwich Dance on 23-24 March 2018. This Selection Workshop will be a chance to meet Robert to learn more about MASS and what the project will involve.
Over the past year Robert has been working with a collaborative team of experts (psychologists, neuroscientists and an illusionist) to develop MASS, an immersive performance that looks at people - how we connect with one another and how these connections may hold the key to us understanding ourselves and each other in new and wonderful ways.
In this workshop you will encounter ideas related to empathy, mirroring, and projection of self in relation to others, through a range of interactive exercises and creative tasks. The workshop will provide you a clear understanding of what being a local cast performer will involve, and what you will gain from participating in a project that is “complex and multi-layered, but simple and stripped back at the same time” (audience response to research and development of MASS).
It is not necessary to have a dance background, although assurance in your body and ease of movement will be beneficial as the performance does have some physical requirements. An open-ness to working in proximity with others, an interest and curiosity in people and our relationship with the wider world is particularly important.
We are looking to meet a wide range of people (of all ages who are over 18), with some prior movement or mindfulness-based practice or experience (eg. yoga, martial arts, meditation). You do not need any professional dance training or performance experience, and we would ideally like to meet those who live or work locally within the Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham.
To register your interest, please send an expression of interest (one paragraph) by email to email@example.com, outlining why you wish to join the project, and some information about yourself that you feel would be relevant to being a local cast performer.
If you wish to be involved, and you are selected by the team to perform in MASS, you will be required to attend the following sessions and performances:
- Thursday 15 March - 15.30-19.30
- Saturday 17 March - 15.30-19.30
- Tuesday 20 March - 13.00-17.30
- Wednesday 21 March - 13.00-17.30
- Thursday 22 March - 10.00-18.00
- Friday 23 March - 13.00-21.00 including evening performance
- Saturday 24 March - 13.00-22.00 including evening performances
All sessions and performances will take place at Greenwich Dance. Daily expenses will be provided. Please indicate your availability for these dates in your email.
You will also be invited to come and meet the cast and watch rehearsals on the afternoon of Friday 9 March.
