Waacking Workshop with Julia Cheng
Julia Cheng, Creative Director of House of Absolute, will lead an intensive, high energy, Waacki, Pose, Punk workshop ahead of our Krump and Waacking Battle, which comes to Greenwich Dance on Saturday 25 November.
Sharing the history of Waacking, Julia will give techniques to develop freestyle skills as well as lead movement combinations to draw out individuality in performance.
Julia Cheng is a dance artist and Creative Director of House of Absolute specialising in movement and cross-art form work. Recent collaborations include projects with fashion designer Erkan Coruh, film-maker Christel Chaudet, artist Laila Muraywid and painter Nagham Hodaifa as well a choreographing for performance projects, Breakin’ Convention 2016 at Sadler’s Wells, Project New Earth at the South Bank Centre.
In 2016 she was commissioned to create performance work with Dr Janice Norwood at University of Hertfordshire and her most recent work ‘Warrior Queens’ was nominated to be a part of Resolution 2017 at The Place. She has recently been selected for a year long artist development programme as part of Testbeds, University of Bedfordshire.
Commissions this year include Imagine Luton festival and also a residency at South Bank to develop her work with House of Absolute. She completed a residency in Egypt for Breakin Walls Festival this Summer and is presenting her new solo at Southbank for China Changing festival, Project New Sun at Richmix and China Exchange. Julia will be working as a dance artist for On Mass project with Roundhouse this Winter.
