Lotus Youth Dance is our exciting and challenging performance company for young people aged 13-19, with many members having progressed through our NRgDance programme. Starting with a foundation in hip hop theatre, our experienced Artistic Director Colleen Joseph takes inspiration from a variety of different dance styles including contemporary and jazz, training you in technique and performance skills to make you a strong and adaptable performer. With the opportunity to perform in a variety of different locations, (past locations include the V&A Museum, Royal Festival Hall and Woolwich Riverside) this group will not only develop your performance skills, but you will create lifelong friendships along the way that will support you in your future endeavours. Members will have the opportunity to work with a range of exciting choreographers and dance artists to develop new and exciting work for both screen and stage.
Lotus is free to join however we do ask if you are able to contribute towards production and running costs then we have a variety of options available to you. Nobody will be turned away for not being able to pay. All we ask if for your commitment and positive attitude.
The programme is open to anybody aged 13-19 within the South East London area.
Lotus Youth Dance Company is delivered in partnership with Tramshed and the programme is supported by RBG. Head over to the What’s On page to book your spot.
Tramshed
Tramshed uses the arts to bring people together to build resilience, cohesion and understanding. We challenge inequality, prejudice, and barriers and inspire and equip people to engage better with self, society and the arts.
About Tramshed
We are the arts centre at the heart of its community. Tramshed is a theatre company and community arts hub based in the heart of Woolwich, South East London.
We offer performing arts programmes for young people and for adults with learning differences. We prioritise artist development seeking to create career opportunities in the arts for our community. We are home to numerous and diverse community groups. We put on great shows for a first-class local night out.
We believe that creative experiences can remove barriers between us, connect us and positively enrich our lives. We want to be the force for that change in our community – inspiring, challenging and entertaining people of all ages and from all backgrounds.
In 2019 we changed our name from the Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (GLYPT) to Tramshed, to reflect the work we do now and celebrate our venue the Tramshed in Woolwich as our forever home.
What our company members say!
I chose to join Lotus mostly for fitness reasons so that I could do a physical activity each week, but also so that I could improve my social skills so I can talk to more people. I’ve made a lot of friends here.
Kaylyn, Lotus Company Member
“There’s just this energy where you will come in and just start creating and bounce off different ideas with different people”
Sharni, Lotus Company Member
“It’s really exciting because there is always something new to learn, new choreography. I especially like it when we have some guest performers in or choreographers who can teach us different styles of dance.”
Kaylyn, Lotus Company Member
“It’s not the type of place where you just follow a set curriculum, set things that you are made to do. It’s more about where the group is headed, we will just go, which is something that I really enjoy.”
