Here are 5 exciting dance films guaranteed to brighten up your week.

Created in Quarantine

1. The Playground / Quang Kien Van - 3121

This joyous 5-minute film is a delight from start to finish. It has it all – awesome music (thank you Prince), creative editing from Anita Sidoruk and, of course, some pretty funky dancing!

Feature Length

2. Nederlands Dans Theater 1 - Endlessly Free

The irony of NDT1’s performance is that it is not endlessly free. This live stream from their sold out theatre takes place this Thursday and will cost you €15 (approx £13.60). However, we think this triple bill featuring work by Medhi Walerski and Crystal Pite, will be worth it. Book online. Here’s the trailer:

Under 5 Minutes

3. Stopgap - In Stop Motion

This film was originally created for Random Acts in 2018. We love how the paper dancers come to life – it’s a little bit of magic!

Dance On Screen

4. English National Ballet - Curing Albrecht

Curing Albrecht shows a young man who checks into a bespoke institution, hoping to be cured of his inability to stop dancing. Directed and choreographed by Morgann Runacre-Temple and Jessica Wright, the short dance film is inspired by themes of dancing and madness in the iconic ballet Giselle.

Catch It While You Can

5. Draw From Within - Rambert X Wim Vandekeybus

This is another ticketed one but also looks like it’s going to be awesome. Rambert’s full company of dancers are currently in the studio creating their first real-time, live-stream performance with leading choreographer and film-maker, Wim Vandekeybus. You can watch online from 24 – 27 September. See Rambert’s website for full details on how to get involved. After you’ve watched the trailer!
