1. American Ballet Theater - One Year
One Year is an ode to passion and its unstoppable force. American Ballet Theater’s Calvin Royal III dances through seasons, social clashes, turmoil and global tensions by performing the same choreography in the same place throughout the year. As we watch the verdant leaves in Central Park fade and turn to snow, One Year portrays an artist’s dedication to dance during turbulent times.

2. William Forsythe - The Barre Project (Blake Works II)
Conceived in the midst of the pandemic, choreographer William Forsythe, New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck, and CLI Studios present The Barre Project (Blake Works II). Choreographed for film, with the feel of a live performance, The Barre Project was created via Zoom, with all rehearsal, filming and assembly taking place remotely. The full film is available to watch on Sadler’s Wells’ website until 16 May. Here’s a trailer:

3. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre - I Wanna Be Ready
In 2018, in honour of the Company’s 60th anniversary, Matthew Rushing – a 25-year veteran of the Ailey company — performed the iconic solo I Wanna Be Ready from Alvin Ailey’s classic work, Revelations. Filmed in Rogers, Texas, where Alvin Ailey was born and lived as a young child, Rushing’s performance features live accompaniment by five local singers.

4. New York City Ballet - Christopher Wheeldon's This Bitter Earth
In the midst of preparing for their then-cancelled spring performances, New York City Ballet had recently completed production on a short film meant to be used to promote their season — a single continuous shot of Sara Mearns and Adrian Danchig-Waring performing an excerpt from Christopher Wheeldon’s This Bitter Earth.
