Chew-Yeen Lawes

Chew-Yeen Lawes is a retired nurse and midwife, insured and accredited to teach Qigong (Chi Gong) & Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan), both of which she has done for 23 years.

Studies show that committed, consistent practice of Qigong & Taiji impact positively on the health & wellbeing of billions of devotees in the world. It can be practised by all age groups, all abilities, anywhere, anytime, with or without pre knowledge.

Qigong & Taijiquan exercises combine mental focus, with deliberate, graceful movements that can improve strength, agility and balance (Harvard University Taiji website).

Anusha Subramanyam (Mindful Movement class 20 May)

Anusha Subramanyam, director of Beeja, is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and dance movement therapist. She is seen as one of the most exciting exponents of Bharatanatyam working ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ of its tradition. Her work is trans-cultural and inter-generational. Anusha has choreographed a wide range of performances and has collaborated with artists from a variety of disciplines to create work that is accessible, entertaining and challenging. Anusha is an inspiring teacher who, for the last 23 years, has focused on integrating dance, education, somatic and contemplative practices into her work. She has also trained as a Pilates teacher. Anusha has performed and taught internationally. Her passion for dance and belief that everyone can dance is at the core of Beeja ethos.

Movement Workshop – Connecting With Yourself – Saturday 20 May
Anusha Subraynam will lead an inclusive dance movement workshop informed by experiential anatomy, imagery connecting to dance and movement improvisation practices. Anusha will encourage participants to find and explore their own possibilities of movement. Through building awareness of sensations within the body, exploring improvised movement, breath, and some experimentation with the use of voice. Elements of somatic practice, Indian dance, yoga will also be incorporated.
This Workshop is suitable for all ages and abilities.
